Straight out of the East Village, downtown Manhattan. Its the legendary but underground Afro Cuban or more correctly Afro Rican sounds of Bobby Vidal's Mambo Macoco - a band that has had a stable of top Latin artists in it's ranks for over 20 years. Pictured right is Jay Collins who wrote half the bands repertoire.
The music is Afro Cuban Jazz with emphasis on the traditional percussion section of congas, bongo, bell and Timbales. In New York the timbale was replaced by the drum kit giving a post be-bop edge to the music.
Line up: sax, trumpet, piano, bass, congas, bongo, drums.
Appearances at: St Marks Bar NY, Parkside Lounge NY, Freida Margolis Auckland.
